Liposuction Surgery - Reduce Unwanted Fat

You are a good candidate for liposuction plastic surgery if you have excess localized fat, which does not go by exercise or diet. You are also a good candidate if you desire contouring of the following body parts: cheeks, jowls, chin, neck, upper arms, female breasts, male breasts, chest areas, back, abdomen, waist, hips and buttocks, inner and outer thighs, inner knee, calves and ankles.

Liposuction is not a substitute for overall weight loss and it is not an effective treatment for cellulite. Liposuction can be done simultaneously on several areas of the body and as an adjunct to other aesthetic plastic surgery procedures, like mastopexy.

Liposuction Result is not same for every one
It depends upon your personal physical factors, age, and sex. Hence the result varies from person to person. Your plastic surgeon will decide the correct method of liposuction suited to our body need. This process will also help you to have a realistic expectation from the surgery.

Liposuction Complications and Risks
As with any surgery, liposuction also has risks. You must understand the risks and then proceed forward. Since risks are minor, thousands of people undergo liposuction every year. Discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure on a personal basis with your plastic surgeon.

Some common risks are excessive bleeding, infection, and reactions to anesthesia. Accumulation of blood under the skin does occur, but they resolve themselves normally. Numbness and loss of sensation may be felt after liposuction, but it is generally temporary. Skin may be discolored in the area treated. Some patients may have depressions or wrinkling of the skin, but with other treatments, they are minimized.

Preparation for liposuction plastic surgery
Smoking reduces the healing capacity of the body, and increases scar marks. Hence, you should stop smoking at least three months before your surgery. Certain anti-inflammatory drugs and aspirin cause increased bleeding; hence you should avoid taking these medications for at least one month before liposuction surgery.

The day of liposuction plastic surgery
The procedure will be performed either in a hospital, or in a suitable facility, or in an office-based surgical suite. The surgeon with your consent should have decided on the type of anesthesia to be used (local anesthesia, intravenous sedation, epidural block, or general anesthesia).

Monitors for checking the heart, blood pressure, pulse, and the amount of oxygen circulating in the blood will be running. When the surgery is complete, you will be taken to the recovery room where you will be monitored on a continuous basis. Compressive dressings like elasticized bandages, sponges, or specially designed garments may be placed on the areas where liposuction has been performed. You can go home after a few hours, or you may stay overnight in the hospital or the surgical facility, so that you can be monitored closely.

After liposuction plastic surgery
You must not take aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs and you should refrain from smoking. Your dressings will be temporarily removed for inspection. Some swelling and bruising will be noticed.

If suturing is done, then the stitches are removed usually within ten days of the surgery. After a few days, you should be able to resume your normal activities.

Results of liposuction plastic surgery
The healing process is gradual hence it may take some time before the new contour of your body settles itself. Unwanted fat is removed, and you feel a significant change in your body appearance. Self-esteem and confidence is much improved along with increased participation in social activities.

The results of liposuction are permanent, as long as you do exercises and maintain your postoperative weight.
