Alaska Fishing Still Rules the World

Industrial growth and overfishing have led to disturbance of the runs in many of the worlds top fishing locations. Washington, Oregon and California who once enjoyed healthy runs of ocean run salmon, can attest to the destruction of their native runs.

Pollution and industrial growth have decimated many natural river stocks to the point of no repair. Many people are beginning to assume that this is expected wherever you fish, and that the days of healthy wild runs and stocks of fish have long since past.

This is hardly the case in Alaska. Alaska has enjoyed their late start at statehood and have been lucky to learn from the mistakes of other troubled fisheries across the world. Not only did Alaska start with larger runs than other areas in the first place, they have also initiated protection of their rivers and lakes to assure that their waterways don't see the same destructive fate.

Runs of Salmon and other native fish are as healthy as ever in Alaska, largely due to careful management. Some runs of fish are actually healthier today than they were 50 years ago.

Then of course, there are countless areas of Alaska accessible only by air, that humans normally can't fish. Yes, Alaska is still one of that last frontiers in the world, and for more than just fishing. Plan a trip today and experience nature in the raw for for yourself. Alaska fishing truly does still rule the world.
